Mawkishness & Melodrama #5
Sometimes words catch my attention. That was the case with the word mawkishness. I forgot where I heard it, and instantly, I was struck. Off to Google I went. According to Merriam-Webster, mawkishness means “the state or quality of having an excess of tender feelings (as of love, nostalgia, or compassion).” An example phrase I found (and has since disappeared) was “the mawkishness and melodrama of young love.”
And just like that, I knew that had to be part of the minis for my Poetry of Flowers collection. As a whole, the collection explores the idea of falling in like with someone new, rose colored glasses, and the feelings of hope that come with the first flowers of spring. The mawkishness and melodrama seems to perfectly describe that first little feelings of falling in like with someone new and the butterflies.
