An elixir is a magical substance with healing powers. Think of the Elixir of Life in Harry Potter that allowed Nicolas Flamel to live for 500 years.
I think so often there is this attractiveness to the "elixirs" in life. Those quick fixes or miracle solutions that will solve our problems with little to no effort on our part. Pills to lose weight. Pills to fix the attention span. Get rich quick schemes. The perfect non-stick frying pan.
Putting in the work can be hard and take a long time, so that elixir looks like a tempting option.
But so often, it's fake.
Mr. Pirelli's Miracle Elixir in Sweeney Todd was supposed to make one's hair grow. But as pointed out by Mr. Todd and Mrs. Lovett, it's piss and ink.
Mr. Pirelli and his young lad capitalize on the fears and insecurities of the crowd to market their elixir.
And this happens to be the elixir that I'm putting on the market. I want my paintings to bring joy into people's lives. I know that I can't actually fix the problems in your life with my artwork. That would be a miracle indeed. But maybe, just maybe, having a bright piece of artwork in your home or office or anywhere in your life could be the thing that brings a smile to your face each day.

I believe this works in an alternate universe,
But here in this one,
This is a happily ever after that isn’t ever happening.
It’s a fictional fairytale I built in the clouds,
With no way down to reality.
I mourn the make believe
Because there isn’t anything real to grieve.
This world is full of infinite possibilities,
So it’s possible there’s a version where this ends happily.

The “Women Working” painting was inspired by the “Men Working” signs that can sometimes be found near road construction. I encountered one of those signs when I was in just the right mood, and I found it really annoying. I texted my former professor saying that I wanted a sign that said “Women Working”.
So I made one.

Once upon a time, I was flipping quickly through radio stations looking for something to listen to. In between clicks, I heard the words "Time Machine Operator". I'm sure it was an advertisement for a full-time or part-time machine operator, but I only heard the words "time machine operator." It got my brain thinking about an alternate universe where time machines exist. The world is split into the elite who are allowed to use the time machines, and the people who work to operator the machines and actually make time travel possible.

"Stained" is a beautiful example of the inspiration for my stained glass painting style. It was inspired by a piece of glass in the Tiffany stained glass museum in Winter Park, Florida. With the oil paint thinned out in this style, everything is visible. If I make a mistake, it can never be fully covered up or changed. From that moment on, I work with the mistake or imperfection to make it beautiful. I feel like it is a reflection of life. We cannot go back in time to change things. We can only move forward and work with what has happened. We are stained by the things that happen to us, and we all have an opportunity to make a beautiful life.

"Where Do We Find the Buddhas?" is part of the Off the Cushion collection.
In March of 2021 I attended my first meditation service at the Green Bay Zen Center - part of the Hollow Bones Zen organization. A Google search gone awry, a curious mind, and a long standing interest in Buddhism led me to that first meditation sit on the cushion. In my relatively short time practicing with GBZC, I have heard numerous Dharma Talks about the importance of taking our meditation practice “off the cushion” and into our daily lives. For me, the natural place to take my practice was onto the canvas.
The titles and inspiration for these paintings come from four of my favorite lines from various pieces of the sutra book. I wanted to transform my understanding of the poetry of the words into something visual. When I first imagined this collection, I thought the color palette was going to be more neutral tones and the paintings would have a more somber feel to them. But that isn’t how I experience Buddhism and meditation. Sure, we are silent and wear black clothing, but there is an aliveness to the experience that couldn’t be captured except with bright colors. I ended up with a color palette that feels like Spring, playfulness, and being awakened.
I grew up Catholic, and from a young age, I was more entranced by the beauty of the space than by the Word. I would find myself lost in the brick pattern of the floor or the entrancing colors in the stained glass. Even though I am no longer Catholic, whenever I travel, I search out Catholic places of worship because the stained glass calls to my heart. Stained glass is a source of inspiration for me, and it is visible in these four paintings inspired by the Hollow Bones Sutra book.

Éphémère is one of those beautiful French words that was gifted to the English language, but we treat it like the fine china gifted at weddings that is too precious to use.
Ephemeral. Short-lived. Destined to perish.
It seems fitting that some of the most beautiful things in this world aren't made to last. Flowers - roses in particular - being one of them. They have to be enjoyed in the moment because it cannot wait. The beauty will not last forever.

In French, "vraiment" means "really."
This painting was started on a Monday morning. That particular morning, shortly before 8am, I got a phone call with some not good news. It was definitely not the phone call one wants to receive ever - let alone on a Monday morning. It doesn't set a good tone for the week, and it can only be met with the rhetorical question, "REALLY?"
Is this really what's happening right now?
Is this real?
Is this really what I'm hearing?
Are you really serious?
REALLY?
Vraiment?
Ouai, c'est vrai.
And so I took that frustration and disbelief and decided that what I needed was color. A lot of bright color. A slightly confusing amount of bright color. And then I mixed in a line drawing I had done in college. And then added more color.

"Seaside Dreamscape" was started in the early months of the pandemic. It was summer but we couldn't quite do things, so it didn't really feel like summer to me. I spent too much time alone, inside, and dreaming of not being alone and inside. One of the places my mind went frequently was a seaside that was filled with color and people and joy. So much joy.
I figured it didn't quite make sense to paint a landscape of a place I had never been and may not even exist. So I made a dreamscape.
Come visit me on the color seaside dream with this painting.

"Notre Dame de Paris" was inspired by the fire at Notre Dame de Paris in 2019 and the debate that followed regarding the amount of money being given to repair the historic cathedral vs. using the money on meaningful humanitarian causes.
France and the French language have been part of my life since middle school. I went to France in high school and I studied abroad in France during college. I've been to Notre Dame de St. Michel de Paris numerous times during both of my trips to France. It's where I really started to bond with my host family, it's where the ghost tour of Paris started, and it's one of the reasons that I love gothic cathedrals and stained glass.
I'm not even a practicing Catholic, and I have strong ties to this building in France. I understand it is just a building, but to so many people across the world, that building means something.

"Fortitude" is part of my Disco Babes triptych (fancy word meaning three pieces of art). You can collect all three Disco Babes or just the one that pulls on your heart strings the most. They are named after three admirable attributes which also happen to be cool words IMO. The Disco Babes were designed to be a party in the reflection of a disco ball. The paintings are covered in a silvery glitter gloss that will DANCE when it's in direct sunlight. Get ready for spontaneous dance parties and joyful vibes when you get this painting in your space.

In the song "If You Come Back to Me" by Bowling for Soup, the band rhetorically asks a handful of magicians where they could find the magic that was lost in the relationship being discussed (and also asks Shaq why he left the Magic :P ). This painting was me thinking & feeling through a time where I felt like I had lost the magic in my life. And as I worked on this fun piece full of unicorn colors & joy, I had the realization that surely we are the ones that create the magic in our lives. And when it feels like it's missing, that means we haven't done enough magic creation recently.

"Hold My Heart" is a 16”x20” oil painting with a black wooden frame measuring 18”x22”. There is a hanging wire on the back.
The periwinkle pop in the middle of the dramatic dark reds caught my eye and sparked my interest in painting bouquets. The title "Hold My Heart" comes from the Lenka song "We Will Not Grow Old". Her sweet voice feels like the soft periwinkle in the middle of this deep song.
The paintings are from my series of wedding bouquet paintings. My dear friend is a wedding photographer (Sylvia Damaris), and she provided me with inspiration photos for these gorgeous colorful paintings. They are a celebration of love. The titles are taken from the lyrics of love songs.

“Light of a Thousand Stars” is a 16”x20” oil painting with a black wooden frame measuring 18”x22”. There is a hanging wire on the back.
This bouquet shows off the beautiful combination of pale pink and dramatic red. It feels like Valentine's Day. The title comes from Ed Sheeran's song "Thinking Out Loud."

"All Their Light" is a 16”x20” oil painting with a black wooden frame measuring 18”x22”. There is a hanging wire on the back.
This bouquet color scheme caught my heart quickly. The light colored flowers mixed with the gorgeous greenery and the splash of dark purple made my heart sing. The title comes from the Band Perry song "All Your Life" in the line "I don't want the whole world, the sun, the moon, and all their light, I just want to be the only girl you love all your life".

"What a Catch" is a 20"x20" oil painting on canvas. There is a hanging wire on the back.
Fall Out Boy's song "What a Catch, Donnie" starts off with the dramatic lyrics, "I got troubled thoughts, and the self-esteem to match, what a catch, what a catch." It's a beautiful and sad song. We all carry so much baggage. There are layers, complications, and twists and turns to our story and to what we bring to the table.
This painting started with a thick layer of gesso that created beautiful texture. And then the oil paint took over. So many times I thought I had a plan and knew what I was doing. But just like in life, things don't always go to plan. Even though this painting is no where near where I thought it would be, I think it turned out to be an even better catch than originally planned.
"We Can Light Up the Sky" is a 16”x20” oil painting with a black wooden frame measuring 18”x22”. There is a hanging wire on the back.
I was so attracted to the color scheme in this bouquet because it feels rich and romantic and sultry. The title comes from the song "Rule the World" by Take That. It is the song that plays in the end credits of the movie Stardust. It is beautiful and magical and gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

"Be Your Forever" is a 16”x20” oil painting with a black wooden frame measuring 18”x22”. There is a hanging wire on the back.
The sweet pinks and peaches with the splash of green feels like spring: the growth and possibilities of the seasons changing and the feeling of warm weather. The title comes from the song "Greatest Love Story" by LANCO.

Sassy Girl is a 20"x24" oil painting on canvas framed in a black wooden floating frame measuring 22"x26". There is a hanging wire on the back.
Sassy Girl is inspired by my aunt who passed away. The drawn motif is something that she used to doodle on the score sheet whenever we would play cards or dominoes. I loved to watch her while she would work on it. The color scheme is also reminiscent of her. There's something beautiful warm and autumnal about the mixing of green and orange and gold. It feels inviting and cozy.
My aunt always used to call my sister and me "sassy girls" in a joking way. And whenever she would tell us to be good, we responded that we didn't know how. I am so proud to have grown into a grown woman who chooses to not always listen to the rules of society and the image that other people want me to be. I don't behave. I have stayed that sassy girl, and I would like to think that she would be proud of me.
"Santeria Always Sounds Like You" is a 14"x14" oil painting on canvas. There is a hanging wire on the back.
"Santeria Always Sounds Like You" and "Neverland Only Exists in our Memories Now" are inspired by the first soulmate I've found. I believe we get more than one in life, and that a soulmate is a person who makes your soul feel at home. It's not necessarily love, and in my case, it wasn't. I think we were soulmates, but it was only meant to last a short amount of time. Time has passed, and now I can look back on our time together with fondness and warm fuzzies. There's also a certain amount of hope that I can find that feeling of "home" with someone else.
The honeycomb motif has been inspiring to me lately, and with "Oh Honey" I wanted to explore a different way of playing with the design. This painting features deep texture as well as a contrast between matte areas and the glittery glossiness of the of the drips.
"Oh Honey" is a 12"x12" oil painting on canvas framed in a black wooden floating frame that measures 14"x14". There is a hanging wire on the back.
"Lotus Paradise" is a collection of nine paintings. Each has a deep, beautiful, shiny background with a drawn mandala in white. The paintings are finished off with a large lotus flower in middle.
"This very place is the Lotus Paradise.
This very body is the Buddha."
-Song of Zazen - Hollow Bones sutra book
Each painting is 8"x8"x.75". The edges of the paintings are painted black, and there is a hanging wire on the back.
"I Kinda Sorta Prayed" is an 8"x8" oil painting in a black wooden frame (measuring 10"x10"x2.5"). The painting comes with a hanging wire on the back.
The painting has a beautiful mix of magenta, pink, and white that swirl around the canvas.
Sometimes this is the word that's needed. Get your hands on a smaller version of my "Colorful Language" painting that you can stick on your computer, water bottle, or anywhere that needs a bit of colorful language.
Each sticker has a transparent background and measures 2"x3 3/4".
Choose from four varieties of hand-painted shatterproof ornaments. Each ornament is 2 5/8" in diameter and has a silver hanging string.

The Forget-Me-Knots and Merry-Golds collection features nine pieces of oil-painted canvas topped with jute hemp embroidery of a flower in a gold frame.
The pieces are either 5"x7" or 7"x5" depending on the orientation. The frames are able to be hung or sat on a flat surface.
These pieces would make a great addition to a desk or bookshelf as a little way to bring in color and joy. You could also collect a few of them to add to a gallery wall.
This piece is dedicated to all of the men that thought they had a right to my body. I hope I didn’t make you uncomfortable.
