I Just Want Attention
In Charlie Puth’s song Attention, there is a line “you just want attention.” And truly, I think part of the fun of falling in like with someone new is the attention. There is an appeal to the fact that the attention feels shiny and new. For me, I think coming to terms with the fact that I enjoy that attention helps me distance the enjoyment of the attention from the thoughts and feelings I have about the new person. Because I think sometimes I over-estimate how much I actually like a new person. Rose colored glasses. Head filled with hope.
And no, I won’t apologize for wanting attention.
